Workshops

Join Olivia Thoele (the choreographer for Matilda) and Calloway Walsh (the Vocal director for Matilda) for a class designed specifically to prepare actors for the dancing and singing portion of a musical theatre audition. 

 

Olivia will focus on dance technique, which includes instruction on fundamental dance skills. Musicality includes practicing movement synchronization with music, understanding the rhythm, and conveying the emotional narrative through dance. You will also learn choreography breakdown, which is learning a preset dance combination similar to what is seen in an audition. Finally, audition etiquette is where you will be given guidance on proper attire, stage presence, and how to navigate the audition room with confidence.

Calloway will focus on proper vocal techniques, which include breathing, pitches, and vocal emphasis.  Not only will she teach pre-audition skills, like song choice, preparation, and warm-ups, but she will also focus on physical presentation.  This can include emotion, stage presence, and breath control.  You will learn how to tackle an audition that asks for specific song requirements, such as length and style.  Finally, you will learn how to approach an audition without being overcome by fear through outstanding stage presence and poise.

We invite actors of all ages (however, we ask anyone under the age of 13 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
